BURNOUT. MANAGE AND TEACH TO GESTIONAR-MADEIRA
A 21st century challenge
“The path towards emotional balance in students begins with balance in adults.” Handbook of Emotion Regulation, 3rd Ed. (2024); global reference text in the scientific study of emotions. This highly practical course comes as a direct response to the “global emotional recession” observed over the last decade. It focuses on the five domains of emotional intelligence that, according to leading researchers and institutions, present the greatest deficits across the population:
● Social connection, sense of belonging, and empathy (social identity). ● Emotion regulation, stress navigation, and recovery. ● Future-oriented optimism and constructive perspective. ● Intrinsic motivation and pursuit of meaningful goals. ● Empathetic presence and attentional capacity in the digital era. The programme builds upon an expert-validated approach that views teacher wellbeing as a fundamental prerequisite for student success, aiming to halt the cascade of burnout and negative emotions reported by thousands of educators today. Across six modules, teachers learn evidence-based strategies from the affective sciences (such as affective neuroscience and the psychology of emotion), discovering how to apply them to improve personal wellbeing and foster a thriving, emotionally intelligent learning community. To achieve this, each module begins by updating the educator’s own emotional competencies before moving towards classroom application through real-world scenarios and problem-solving. All learning culminates in the development of a final Emotional Wellbeing Project tailored to the participant’s educational center.
